S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Is Getting a Massive Expansion Next Month—and a Free UE5 Upgrade
If you've been looking for an excuse to dive back into the Zone, GSC Game World has you covered. Nearly two years after the release of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, the post-apocalyptic shooter is getting its first expansion: Cost of Hope.
Launching August 20 across PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5, the DLC puts players back in the boots of protagonist Skif. This time around, Skif is tracking a mysterious PDA signal straight into the crossfire of an escalating conflict between the Zone's Duty and Freedom factions. GSC Game World promises "dozens of hours of content," featuring brand-new locations, fresh weapons, and a slate of new allies and enemies.
Even if you aren't picking up the paid expansion right away, there's still a reason to jump back in. Cost of Hope drops alongside Update 2.0—a free patch for all base-game owners that upgrades the title to a newer version of Unreal Engine 5 alongside various content additions and performance improvements.
Originally launching on PC before making its way to Xbox and eventually PlayStation 5, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 won over fans with its uncompromising, old-school atmosphere—delivering the quintessential, brutally immersive survival experience the series is known for. With a full-blown expansion and an engine upgrade on the horizon, the Zone is about to get a lot busier.
